Uranus, as the esoteric ruler of Libra, brings a visionary quality to our perspective on life which enables us to see beyond the world of duality as we know it.   As we no longer need to be polarized between the subjective (Arian) and objective (Libran) frames of reference, we can experience the equilibrium and harmony of the soul-centred Libran through a more unified consciousness.   At this level of development, we cannot ‘plan’ to be self-realized.   This essential stage of the process is literally precipitated through the Uranian energy of the soul group.   We do not grow in isolation!   In this context, the Sign of the Scales represents Cosmic Law, or the Law of Karma.   As the latter transcends man-made law, we are challenged to suspend our judgement or criticism in relation to human affairs.   The impact of Uranus, as it is channelled through Libra, transforms this air sign through the Rainbow Bridge, or Antahkarana, which represents the interface between the higher mind and the Soul.   This is associated with the Law of Right Human Relations, which encapsulates  the ethos of the Aquarian Age.   Libra is expressed through the 3^rd and the 7^th Soul Rays, respectively the Ray of Active Intelligence, and the Ray of Ceremonial Order and Magic.   As the 3^rd Ray quality is one of synthesis, and the 7^th Ray an agent of fusion, we are able to infuse the energies of spirit into the substance of matter and form.   The keyword is integration.

 The esoteric ruler of Scorpio is Mars, also regarded as the traditional ruler on an exoteric level.   In soul-centred astrology, the challenging and confrontative energies of this Sign of the Scorpion are engaged in the archetypal battle between the personality and the soul.   As Scorpio corresponds to the 4^th (Soul) Ray of Harmony through Conflict, so the urge to transform and the move towards metamorphosis takes place.   In the nature of this fixed water sign  we discover the secret of directed energy and purpose.      As the Martian forces are channelled through the 4^th Ray dynamics of Scorpio, the sustainability and single-mindedness that is so typical of this astrological type intensifies under the impetus of spiritual direction.   This Path of Discipleship is also associated with the 6^th (Soul) Ray of Devotion and Idealism, thus providing the incentive and raison d’etre in the spiritual quest for redemption.   The keyword is alchemy.

 Our own planet of Earth is the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, which through the single-minded purpose of the Archer, symbolizes humanity’s quest for the holy grail.   The correspondence to the Earth is through the 3^rd (Soul) Ray of Active Intelligence, and this Ray represents the inherent intelligence within all matter.   People who express its qualities in their lives function predominantly through the mental plane, and tend to be the creators of ideas.   At home in the abstract realms of philosophy and concepts, the challenge for the soul-centred Sagittarian is to ground their high ideals in the world of matter and form.   This process is facilitated through the 4^th (Soul) Ray of Harmony through Conflict, in the archetypal struggle as the wisdom of the Higher Self gains mastery over the animal nature.   This is symbolized in the glyph of half man, half horse.   Another Ray of Manifestation associated with Sagittarius is the 5^th (Soul) Ray of Concrete Knowledge, which is the expression of Love/Wisdom through the intellect.   This is a natural extension of the 3^rd (Soul) Ray, and creates the link to the mass consciousness through the higher mind.   The evolved Sagittarian is then prepared to work with the final Ray of Manifestation through the 6^th (Soul) Ray of Devotion and Idealism.   The keyword is vocation.

 As we explore the earth sign of Capricorn, we find that the ruler, Saturn, applies on both exoteric and esoteric levels.   It is as though, once we have reached this stage in our evolutionary process, there is less differentiation between the material and the spiritual way of life.   One becomes fused into the other, as we start to allow Spirit to work through matter.   What does need to be realized, in the soul-centred Capricorn, is that we are ready to make our transition from the aspirations of a goal-orientated, more objective perspective to actually living and experiencing our truth subjectively.   In effect, the disciple becomes the initiate, as in Saturn we are confronted and challenged, not only by our own limitations, but by the ‘dweller on the threshold’.   This represents our karmic inheritance – the sum total of what has gone before.    The correspondences to the soul rays are the 1^st Ray of Will/Power, the 3^rd Ray of Active Intelligence, and the 7^th Ray of Ceremonial Order and Magic.   In Saturn, as the Lord of Karma, we are able to harness our resources and energise our will in recognition of our personal and collective responsibility to the Higher Self.    This attunement of the higher mind (3^rd Ray) is activated by the underlying purpose (1^st Ray) of the disciplined individual who subjugates their personal desires in service to the Spiritual Hierarchy (7^th Ray).   The keyword is initiation.

The esoteric ruler of Aquarius is Jupiter, planet of the 2^nd (Soul) Ray of Love/Wisdom.   The Sign of the Waterbearer manifests through the 5^th (Soul) Ray of Concrete Knowledge, which not only represents the dissemination of information, but it personifies the collective human purpose as it unfolds.   Technology, as we know it, has revolutionised communication and the way that we live our lives.  Geographical distance is no longer a barrier in relationships.   As we enter the Age of Aquarius, we are more aware of the group consciousness, and the impact we have as individuals in living our lives more interactively.   In this respect, we are ready to dispel prejudice, and to recognise and welcome the richness of diversity.   This exposes us to the influence of Jupiter, as it channels the love and wisdom generated by the 2^nd (Soul) Ray, which manifests through the power of the Higher Mind.   In this way, we are able to take responsibility for our actions – individually and collectively.   In the highly evolved Aquarian, there is a natural discernment in allowing themselves to be used effectively, as the knowledge is transmuted into wisdom through humanitarian endeavour.   The keyword is altruism.

The esoteric ruler of Pisces is Pluto, planet of the 1^st (Soul) Ray of Will/Power.   This does bring a martial quality to the traditional rulership of the Piscean, represented in Jupiter and Neptune as these planets correspond to the 2^nd (Soul) Ray of Love/Wisdom, and the 6^th (Soul) Ray of Devotion and Idealism.   In the 2^nd and 6^th Ray qualities, we recognise the gentle and caring nature of the Piscean personality.   On a soul-centred level,  the Plutonic forces transform and regenerate the individual who, through lifetimes of sacrifice, have demonstrated true selflessness and unconditional love.   The symbolism of the Sign of the Fish swimming in opposite directions illustrates not only the world of duality, but the nature of paradox which often inclines the Piscean to confusion, and even a crisis of faith.   At this stage of initiation, Pluto in Pisces dissolves the boundaries through an attunement with the cosmic consciousness.   This sometimes produces what is known as ‘the dark night of the soul’ which, through catharsis, releases us from the bondage of attachment and the desire nature.   In being freed from the wheel of Karma, we are able to elevate our consciousness.   The keyword is unification.
