How does the Earth express her pain?
As chemicals pollute her soil
Do her tears flow through acid rain?
Falling on barren lands of toil
Lands that once were fertile, green
Abundance in organic fields
Grieving o’er what might have been
Our harvest, thwarted in it’s yield
Does our planet’s anger show?
As her consort, Sun, burns through
Defences weakened now we know
By greenhouse effect; a clearer view?
Tornadoes, hurricanes abound
The winds of change, our Earth’s recorder
And in it all we hear the sound
Of chaos bringing cosmic order
Earthquakes, tremors – Gaia’s way
Custodians waken, pay attention
To what our planet has to say
She is the mother of invention
Does the Earth’s sweet mother, Moon
In global warming, as oceans rise
Take us from our safe cocoon
And tempt us to traverse the skies
To send our rockets to lunar plains
Or land on Mars, planet of war
Is this why Gaia cries through her rain?
For us, her children, are no more…….
